Is social media worth it for a small business?

As a lead channel for most local services: usually no — organic reach for business pages is small, and hours spent posting rarely survive a cost-per-lead comparison with search or reviews. As a credibility layer: yes — an active-enough profile reassures the prospect who's already checking you out.

The exceptions are visual and community businesses (food, fitness, renovation, events), where discovery genuinely happens in feeds — there it can be a primary channel, especially with before/after material.

Our default allocation: maintain a minimal credible presence (batch a month of posts in an hour), let reviews and search carry acquisition, and treat paid social as its own measured channel decision, not an extension of posting.
